After months of rumors, Takahisa Taura, known for directing Astral Chain and contributing to Nier Automata, has officially left PlatinumGames. He recently revealed in Famitsu magazine that he has started his own company called Eel Game Studio, though details remain scarce at this stage.
This news follows notable changes in Taura’s public profiles last year, when he removed references to PlatinumGames from his social media handles. Fans had been watching closely as other key figures also shifted away from the studio.
The creative scene at PlatinumGames seems to be undergoing shifts after Hideki Kamiya, the celebrated mind behind Bayonetta, announced his new project, Clovers, with backing from Capcom. Several former Platinum developers are reported to be involved in this venture.
Kamiya hinted in a recent video that multiple leads have departed the company, including Bayonetta 3‘s director, Yusuke Miyata; Metal Gear Rising’s Kenji Saito; and character designer Masaki Yamanaka, who worked on titles like Anarchy Reigns and Resident Evil. “People make games,” PlatinumGames said. The company stayed quiet about these departures until January, when it issued a statement pledging to continue surprising players with new creations. Shortly after, it announced an upcoming Ninja Gaiden 4, developed in partnership with Koei Tecmo and Microsoft.
