First Look at Lenovo Legion Go S: A Budget-Friendly Portable Powerhouse

The gaming landscape is ever-evolving, and if you thought the handheld market was stagnant, think again. Lenovo is stepping into the fray with its upcoming Legion Go S, aiming to capture the hearts and wallets of budget-conscious gamers. Hot off the digital press are some tantalizing leaks that have given us our first peek at this device.

Windows Central recently unveiled official renders of the Legion Go S, confirming whispers about its sleek white shell design. But before you get too excited, let’s break down what we know so far and what it could mean for seasoned veterans and newcomers.

If you squint just right, you might notice it resembles its predecessor, the original Legion Go. Minor tweaks like altered button placements and the absence of removable controllers might feel like a blow to those who love customizable setups. Who needs detachable bits when you’ve got a solid unit in hand?

Diving deeper into specs, I must remind you that we are still under wraps until Lenovo gives us the official thumbs up. We’re looking at an AMD Ryzen Z2 configuration under the hood. Before your mind races towards power comparisons with high-end rigs like the Z1 Extreme (which boasts Zen4 cores), temper your expectations a bit. This new variant likely won’t compete on raw horsepower but will offer enough muscle for casual gaming sessions on the go.

This Ryzen Z2 setup should deliver decent performance with 8 CPU cores and potential RDNA2 graphics capabilities. For those familiar with PC gaming jargon, you can enjoy many titles without turning your device into a portable sauna. Still, it’s crucial to remember that these specs are based on leaks. They could change faster than my mood after losing a ranked match.

The excitement mounts as CES 2025 looms closer. Lenovo is expected to pull back the curtain on this handheld gem alongside other next-gen devices in its lineup. With every new reveal comes speculation about pricing and availability. Considering it’s aimed at being budget-friendly, it’ll be interesting to see how they balance cost against capability.
