Activision has confirmed that it will be closing down Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera, the renamed version of the original Warzone, later this year. The shutdown date has been scheduled for September 21, 2023.
Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera originated from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2020. With the release of Warzone 2.0 in November 2022, the original game was rebranded as ‘Caldera,’ its final map name. This allowed fans of the original game to continue enjoying the classic design and features of the initial battle royale.
One component of Caldera was allowing players to utilize skins and weapons they’d acquired or purchased from three premium Call of Duty titles. Unfortunately, these were incompatible with Warzone 2.0.
In their official statement on Thursday, Activision clarified that after Caldera’s discontinuation, players can still access their purchased content through the multiplayer modes of Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard.
The press release by Call of Duty Staff stated: “As Warzone moves ahead with exciting new experiences to come, Warzone Caldera will shut down on September 21, 2023. All Caldera gameplay, player progression, inventories, and online services will expire on that date.”
Regarding the closure, the statement reassured players that the Caldera shutdown will not affect current Warzone gameplay, inventory, or player progression on Al Mazrah and other available maps.
