Fans are trying to figure out what The Game Awards mysterious statue means as God of War and Diablo are ruled out

Geoff Keighley posted the what3words phrase regal.inspiring.thickness pointing to a statue in the Mojave Desert, and Cory Barlog and Jason Schreier have both said it is not tied to God of War or Diablo.

The Game Awards

The Game Awards has dropped a mystery into the Mojave Desert and players are still debating which franchise it belongs to. Geoff Keighley posted an image of a dark, multi-figure statue alongside the what3words phrase regal.inspiring.thickness, which points to a spot just off Yucca Mesa Road in California. Fans quickly plugged the phrase into the map and then started travelling to the location to photograph the installation from multiple angles.

The statue itself looks grim and chaotic, with twisted human forms, draconic shapes and demonic figures growing out of a single base, giving most guesses a mature fantasy or horror bent. Suggestions thrown around include God of War, Diablo, Fallout New Vegas, Doom, Baldur’s Gate and, more fancifully, Half-Life 3 because of the nearby road name Black Mesa evokes.

Console PC Gaming previously covered Keighley’s what3words clue and the fan sleuthing around the Mojave location in our piece on the earlier tip pointing to a possible Diablo 4 connection, and that theory has since been denied by multiple sources. Our coverage of the original what3words lead lays out what fans found at the site and why Diablo 4 was an early guess.

Two of the louder guesses have been pushed back. YouTuber Luke Stephens reported that Santa Monica Studio director Cory Barlog appeared in his stream chat to say the statue is not related to God of War, and journalist Jason Schreier wrote on ResetEra that “this statue is not teasing the Diablo 4 expansion.” Schreier added that he knows what it is but does not plan to report the reveal himself yet.

Other commentators had pointed to a Windows Central report from Jez Corden claiming a Diablo tie and to images of serpent and demonic motifs found by social sleuths, but those leads have been questioned in public posts and independent checks of the site so far. The Game Awards will stream live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 11, 2025, where the statue’s meaning is expected to be revealed during the show.
