Circana published its list of top-selling games in the United States through January 2026 and placed Fallout 4 at number 20 on the chart. The appearance is notable because the game originally launched in 2015.
Several factors converged to push Fallout 4 back into the sales ranking. The Amazon Prime Video live-action adaptation finished its second season on February 4, 2026. The season finale and related publicity gave the franchise fresh visibility and encouraged viewers to return to or try the game for the first time.
Bethesda also promoted the franchise activity around the Anniversary Edition. The Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 was announced, marking the first time a major Fallout title is coming to a Nintendo platform. The Anniversary Edition originally launched on other platforms in mid-November 2025, which produced additional sales carryover into January.
On PC, Steam activity climbed through January. Fallout 4 passed 60,000 concurrent players at peak during the month. Fallout 76 also saw a lift after its December update themed around the television show and after a free-play weekend in the last week of January, which pushed its peak to 33,000 concurrent players. Those Steam figures matched activity levels last seen in April and May 2024, when the show’s first season debuted and drew millions of players back to the franchise. Circana noted that Fallout 4, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 76 became some of the top-ten most played titles around that earlier release window.
Historical chart positions for the franchise, as recorded by Circana, show repeated sales spikes for Fallout releases across years:
- In 2008, Fallout 3 was the 16th best-selling game.
- In 2010, Fallout: New Vegas was the 16th best-selling game.
- In 2015, Fallout 4 was the second best-selling game, behind Black Ops 3.
- In 2018, Fallout 76 was the 14th best-selling game.
Bethesda Game Studios has said it is working on Fallout more than anything else. The studio has multiple projects in development, including a claimed remaster of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, and it suggested that Fallout 5 could arrive in about five or six years, though that timeline remains hopeful rather than confirmed. The company’s pipeline also includes ongoing production of the television adaptation and a new Fallout Shelter themed show that is in development.
For players and observers, the return of a decade-old release to the sales charts underscores how media tie-ins and re-releases can revive catalog titles and change visibility across platforms.
