Modder ‘bp42s’ has created an interesting mod for Fallout 4 that incorporates survey area mechanics from Fallout 76. This addition allows players to survey their surroundings and gain experience points.
Players need to climb a minutemen watchtower to use this feature and look out from the balcony. By doing so they can reveal up to six undiscovered map markers within a certain distance. Each watchtower can be surveyed once providing a straightforward way to uncover more of the game world.
Players can receive a small amount of experience or a temporary bonus for location discovery experience which can be toggled on or off in the MCM (Mod Configuration Menu).
