Xbox fans had their hopes set on 2025 for the release of Fable, but Microsoft has officially confirmed that the much-expected title will not be arriving until 2026. This news, announced by Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios, during a recent podcast episode, comes with reassurances about the game’s development progress. In his words, it’s “definitely worth the wait.” Isn’t it comforting when developers prioritize quality over deadlines?

Duncan expressed his thoughts about what’s happening at Playground Games. He stated, “So, I just want to start with, really excited about progress…” The team has something special brewing behind the scenes.

The decision to push back the release was made so that more time could be dedicated to polishing and refining what players can expect from this favorite franchise. While it might feel disappointing initially, Duncan reassured listeners that good things take time in game development. New pre-alpha gameplay footage was also shared alongside this announcement, which is an interesting tease for what’s coming!

Duncan conveyed his trust in Playground Games by highlighting their impressive track record with titles like Forza Horizon. He remarked on how they have consistently produced critically acclaimed games that set high standards. When he mentioned “the most beautifully realized version of Albion you’ve ever seen,” I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of excitement imagining all those enchanting landscapes come to life!

This delay isn’t just about more time. It reflects a commitment from Microsoft and Playground Games to deliver an experience that resonates deeply with fans. After all those years of high hopes since its announcement in June 2024 when we learned it would debut on Game Pass day one on both Xbox and PC, it’s understandable why many are eager for any updates.

The collaboration between Playground Games and Eidos Montreal, known for their work on titles such as Guardians of the Galaxy, adds another layer of intrigue to the project. Although Eidos’ last game didn’t meet commercial expectations despite being well-received critically, their involvement may ensure a substantial narrative depth and engaging gameplay mechanics.

This means there is still plenty to look forward to! As we wait patiently (or not-so-patiently), remember that good things come to those who wait.

If you’re curious about updates or wish to reminisce about Fable’s legacy while waiting for new releases or announcements from Xbox, don’t hesitate to check official channels or our own ConsolePCGaming.com page!
