Experimental 101 revealed why it has taken so long for Biomutant to develop

Biomutant is an upcoming open-world action-RPG set in an apocalyptic world overrun by mutants developed by Experimental 101 and published by THQ Nordic. The game was revealed way back in 2017, but after countless delays and development problems, many fans soon forgot it. However, in 2020, we got a lot of news about the game, including a gameplay trailer and a confirmed release date.

Today, in an interview with IGN, the head of Experimental 101, Stefan Ljungqvist, spoke about why the game development was so slow. One of the first already knows reasons was the fact that only 20 people were making it! Even if such a small group of people is developing it, the graphics, gameplay, and customization look very impressive, standing up to games made by bigger studios.

It’s a big game, a big bite for 20 people to chew off… … It’s been a huge amount of work for QA because it’s not easy in an open-world game to find them [bugs and glitches], and then once they’ve been found, we have to fix them, and that’s put some additional challenge on us, being a small team.

Another problem was its 250 000-word script, which had to be reduced to 85 000. Now, hopefully, with no further delays, Biomutant will release on May 25th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
