Battlestate Games has published a preliminary roadmap covering the first half of 2026 for Escape from Tarkov, and it sets expectations through the end of Q2 2026. The roadmap centers on two near-term milestones. Patch 1.0.4.0 delivers a set of technical and gameplay improvements, while Patch 1.0.5.0 is scheduled for Q2 2026 and will include a new boss character introduced via a large-scale in-game event.
Patch 1.0.4.0 features
Patch 1.0.4.0 is listed on the roadmap with several concrete items aimed at technical stability, animation and audio tweaks, and quality-of-life fixes. The roadmap lists these items for Patch 1.0.4.0.
- DLSS 4.5
- Technical improvements to story task functionality and reward distribution
- Reworked weapon animations and movement while aiming
- Sound effects for dropped magazines
- Balancing fixes, QoL changes, and cumulative fixes based on player feedback
- Raid reconnect system rework
What 1.0.5.0 and Q2 will bring
Patch 1.0.5.0, which the roadmap places in Q2 2026, will introduce a new boss character. The boss is currently unnamed and unidentified on the roadmap. Battlestate lists the boss arrival as part of a “large-scale in-game event” that is expected to announce the character and serve as the central moment of that update.
Beyond the boss event, the roadmap highlights additional work planned for Q2, including:
- Technical improvements focused on reducing match loading and exit times and improving interface performance outside of raids
- Culling system update focused on improving in-raid performance
- Vegetation rework across all locations
- Balancing fixes, QoL changes, and cumulative fixes based on player feedback
- New PMC customization options
Roadmap what comes later
The roadmap covers content through approximately June and July. It follows the wide 1.0 release that arrived in November and the steady stream of post-1.0 updates and events. Battlestate has said more content is planned for the second half of 2026, and the roadmap notes a first DLC concept that will focus on playing as a Scav character. The roadmap describes that DLC as technically half of the base game because it focuses on the alternate Scav experience rather than PMC gameplay.
Players interested in earlier post-1.0 work can review recent related coverage such as the studio’s December Kolotun event and winter update, which included new equipment and event mechanics, and the pattern of cryptic images posted by Battlestate’s COO that has generated community discussion.
