Escape From Tarkov could easily get an intrusive anti-cheat, but at a much higher performance cost

Well, if you’ve been crying out loud about cheaters in Escape From Tarkov, you should listen to this. The COO of Battlestate Games, Nikita, has multiple times said that fighting against cheaters is hard and neverending. But eventually, they will get banned.

So, everyone has been craving an intrusive anti-cheat recently. And this is not only in Escape From Tarkov, but in every other game, even in CS2, too. In a recent interview with Pestily, Nikita, the COO of BSG, said that having a better or intrusive anti-cheat is not hard, but it will result in much worse game performance, such as low fps, etc.

He also said that the current game engine and how it is set up makes it even harder for an intrusive anti-cheat to work properly, which will result in a lot of difficulties. Either way, Nikita said that, soon, new anti-cheat techniques will be first tested in Arena and then migrated to Escape From Tarkov original game.

On the question of intrusive anti-cheat, as per the transcript, Nikita said:

We’ve been thinking about it, and literally, the only thing that bothers me a lot, it will draw a lot of fps. A lot of fps. And people will start struggling playing on other locations. Of course somebody will say it’s ok but I play without cheaters, but I cannot ruin player base with that pretty hard decision just to install invasive anti-cheat.

He further said that there are still not that many invasive techniques, but some technical stuff that can be done to help the developer detect cheaters more easily. He said:

The invasive anti-cheat it’s not like it’s no go for us. But right now, due to the architecture and due to Unity and the overall complexity with the game, it will ruin the performance, a lot.

Over the past, Escape From Tarkov has banned tons of cheaters, and this trend is likely to continue due to the RMT value the game offers. So, if you’re an Escape From Tarkov player and you are tired of cheaters, don’t get mad, as the developer reassures that it’s working to the best of its abilities on preventing cheaters.
