Epic cut V‑Bucks amounts and players lose up to 20%, which is super sadge

Fortnite's updated V‑Buck packs now give fewer in‑game credits for the same dollar tiers, with the smallest micro‑pack rising from about $0.50 to $0.99.

Epic Games reduced how many V‑Bucks players receive for the same purchase prices earlier this week, a change that trims value across multiple Fortnite bundles and makes small purchases notably more expensive. Under the new table of V‑Buck amounts, each dollar tier now delivers fewer credits than before. The differences are largest at the low end and shrink at higher price points:

Package Price Original V‑Bucks New V‑Bucks Value Loss
$8.99 1000 800 20%
$22.99 2800 2400 14.3%
$36.99 5000 4500 10%
$89.99 13500 12500 7.4%

For players buying the smallest increment, the change is stark. Where 50 V‑Bucks had cost roughly $0.50 previously, Epic now lists that option at $0.99. Epic did not supply a public statement from CEO Tim Sweeney about the change. A company official did speak to coverage elsewhere. Epic’s senior director of ecosystem growth, Andre Balta, told The Verge that the adjustment reflected the “operating costs of running a business.” The shift comes after Epic’s years‑long campaign against Apple and Google over storefront commission policies, a fight that produced legal battles and regulatory changes and culminated in Fortnite’s return to iOS in 2025. Our coverage of that milestone is available at Fortnite’s return to the App Store.

Observers pointed to Epic’s strong financial performance last year while criticizing the change. Data compiled by Statista showed Epic generated just over $6 billion in 2025, its best year on record, which some readers have cited when calling the V‑Buck reductions a move toward greater profit per transaction. Players will notice smaller bundles hit hardest. Larger bundles still lost value but at a lower percentage, meaning customers who rely on small, frequent top‑ups will see the biggest hit to their purchasing power. If Epic intends to roll back the new amounts or offer compensatory promotions it has not said so publicly. For now the pricing table stands and players who buy V‑Bucks will receive fewer credits for the same dollar outlay.
