Elden Ring’s upcoming update, part of the Tarnished Edition re-release, is shaking things up by adding two new starting classes. One of these classes comes ready with the Milady Light Greatsword, a top-tier weapon from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC that previously required hours of grinding to obtain. This is a big deal for players looking to jump into the action with some serious firepower right from the start.
New Starting Classes Revealed
According to Eurogamer and Famitsu’s coverage of a recent press event in Tokyo, the two new classes are called “Knight of Ides” and “Heavy Knight” (names may change in localization). Both classes pay homage to classic Soulsborne characters, with the Knight of Ides sporting armor reminiscent of the iconic Fluted Armor from Demon’s Souls, and the Heavy Knight echoing the heavy black plate look of Dark Souls 1’s Iron Tarkus.
The Knight of Ides is exciting because it starts with the Milady Light Greatsword. This weapon is known for its elegant duelist moveset combined with the power of a greatsword, making it a fantastic choice for Dexterity or Quality builds. The armor set looks great and will turn heads with its stylish design.
The Heavy Knight is all about raw power and defense, equipped with heavy black plate armor and wielding a new large curved greatsword that resembles a giant falchion. This class seems perfect for players who want to go into into a tanky, strength-focused playstyle.
Starting with a powerful DLC weapon like Milady Light Greatsword is a game-changer. It used to take dozens of hours to unlock this weapon by defeating an endgame boss, so having it from the get-go opens up new build possibilities and playstyles right away. The fresh armor sets add some serious style points to your character’s look.
The Tarnished Edition update is expected to launch alongside Nintendo’s Switch 2 on June 5. Still, these new classes and other additions will also be available on PC, hopefully simultaneously. Bandai Namco hasn’t yet confirmed an exact release date, but it shouldn’t be too far off.
