The ESRB has recently assigned an age rating to Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2, hinting that this new version of the game is close to release. This is interesting news for fans who have been waiting for FromSoftware’s acclaimed title to arrive on Nintendo’s latest console.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC along with fresh cosmetics, especially new gear for Torrent, the protagonist’s mount. Interestingly, this edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, while the original Elden Ring was not available on the original Switch model.
Games usually receive ESRB ratings when they’re feature-complete, which means Tarnished Edition is likely ready to launch soon. Since the base game has been out for years and the new content is minimal, the rating process might have been straightforward. The game retains its Mature rating, so no surprises there.
Bandai Namco has an online showcase scheduled for July 2, which could be the event where the release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is officially announced, or possibly even revealed at the same time. It’s a perfect opportunity, considering the timing and the high hopes from Nintendo fans.
It’s a bit surprising the game didn’t launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, given the relatively light number of new ports available at launch. But for those Nintendo players who missed Elden Ring the first time, this new edition offers a great chance to look at the Lands Between on the go. Will it attract a new wave of fans? I’m guessing it just might.
