Elden Ring Nightreign has seen some interesting developments with its multiplayer options thanks to a popular mod. Initially designed for solo or three-player squads, the game’s co-op experience is now more flexible thanks to the Nightreign Seamless co-op mod. It recently expanded to allow up to six players, though the mod’s creator won’t push beyond that limit because the game quickly becomes too easy.
FromSoftware was pretty firm at first about limiting the player count in Nightreign. The director emphasized the game was built around squads of three, which left out duos and larger groups for a while. Fans weren’t excited about that, especially those who didn’t have a third friend to join in. After some pushback, official two-player support was added in update 1.02. But modders had other ideas.
The Seamless co-op mod initially aimed to fill the gap until official two-player support arrived. Now that it’s in place, the mod’s main advantage is adding mod support and upping the player cap. Creator Yui explained in a Patreon post that the mod is feature-complete and the current focus is fixing bugs related to six-player sessions. Once those are sorted, the mod will enter maintenance mode.
Adding more than six players isn’t on the cards. Yui mentioned that even with a high enemy scaling curve, having more than six players makes the game comically easy. So, six is the sweet spot for now. That’s kinda funny, isn’t it? Why bother facing tough bosses with a crowd if it just turns into a cakewalk?
Here’s a little snippet from the mod description about scaling: enemy health increases based on a percentage tied to the number of players, but this doesn’t affect all enemies evenly. Camp enemies and some beasts won’t scale, so if you want to keep things fair, one player might need to sit out or wander off during some fights.
I’m excited about the idea of a four-player squad more than just duos or trios. It feels more natural and fair to include more friends without leaving anyone out. Having a bigger group might make some fights easier, but at least you get to share the experience. That’s what co-op is about, right?

With all this in mind, it’s clear the mod offers a way to tweak multiplayer in Nightreign beyond what the official game supports. Want to bring more friends along or make enemies tougher? You can do that now. Yikes, I wonder how bosses will hold up against a six-player squad with maxed scaling.
