Elden Ring Nightreign has handed us yet another wild tale, where a single player pushed damage numbers beyond reason, then got smacked down by a game-breaking glitch. Mintius, the player in question, kept stacking their attack power on the Marais Executioner Sword until damage hit a crazy peak—63,375—before the game suddenly refused to let them deal any damage at all.
FromSoftware’s games often revolve around the idea that gaining too much power can lead to downfall, and this story feels like a perfect echo of that theme. Mintius exploited the Power of House Marais’ passive effect, which increases attack power every time you defeat an enemy. Usually, Nightreign’s timed nature prevents this from going out of control, but mintius found a loophole by farming Wormface’s endlessly spawning mobs.
They explained, “I hunted Wormface mobs for about an hour with the Marais Executioner Sword to see what would happen. My attack power easily hit the visible damage cap at 9,999 after defeating 725 enemies.” But the visible cap was just the start. Mintius kept going, hitting a staggering 63,375 damage before the game glitched: “After defeating the 727th enemy, I was suddenly unable to deal any damage at all, and my character got killed.”
This glitch is likely caused by an integer overflow—a classic programming hiccup where numbers exceed the maximum value the game’s code can handle, causing it to freak out. While integers can usually count very high numbers, something about this particular buff’s stacking broke the system, leaving mintius completely vulnerable.
It’s a brutal reminder that even in a game about fantasy power, the cold limits of coding can bring you down hard. Mintius is already planning their next experiment: using a Flame Chariot plunge attack to push damage even further. Will that end well? Yikes.
Here’s the screenshot of the weapon showing the 9,999 damage cap on the equipment screen, though the actual damage went far beyond that:
What do you think about this insane damage stacking and the game’s harsh response? Ever seen a bug punish someone this hard? Drop your thoughts below—I’m curious how many of you would risk farming infinite mobs for that kind of power.
