If you’ve spent some time in Elden Ring Nightreign, you might have stumbled upon a rare item called the Cord End. This legendary item’s description says, “Gain entry somewhere,” which isn’t much help when you’re trying to figure out what to do with it in a large map and limited expedition time. Let me walk you through how to find and use this item effectively.
How to Use Cord End in Elden Ring Nightreign
The Cord End unlocks a hidden door just north of the main castle, right in the river running through it. The door is cleverly concealed against the rock face, so you must look carefully to spot it. If you try interacting with the door without the Cord End, it will display a message saying, “Opens only for those who wield merit.” However, carrying the Cord End in your inventory and interacting with the door will open it for you.
Once inside, you’ll find a long cave path leading to a statue surrounded by three Sacrificial Twig Talismans. These talismans are extremely helpful because they stop you from losing levels or runes when you die. Imagine dying at level 13 and respawning still at level 13, very handy, right? Each player in your squad can claim one, which can really help your whole team.
Cord End Rewards
The Sacrificial Twig Talismans found beyond the secret door gave them a significant advantage in expeditions. It’s pretty generous that three are available, so everyone can benefit. If you’re running with a team, communicating that you have a Cord End is key so no one misses out on grabbing a talisman. If you’re not using voice chat, pinging the talisman location is a good alternative.
How to Find Cord End in Elden Ring Nightreign
Cord Ends are incredibly rare; I’ve only encountered three during many expeditions, and I’ve been playing steadily since the game’s release. They mostly appear in boxes, with the highest chance coming from boxes found in churches. A practical tip: sprint through and break every box you find in churches to increase your chances.
You’ll know you’ve found a Cord End when a gold item drops from the box. From my experience, Cord Ends are the only gold items that drop at churches. It’s best to use the Cord End on Day 2 of your expedition because that’s the ideal time to approach the castle and the hidden door. I wouldn’t suggest detouring from your main route just to find this door; try to reach it naturally along the way.
