Eidos Montreal laid off 124 staff and boss David Anfossi left the studio
The Embracer-owned studio said the cuts reflect changing project needs and that leadership will be reorganized under a transition plan.

Eidos Montreal confirmed on March 30, 2026 that it would eliminate 124 positions and that long-serving studio head David Anfossi had left the company.
The studio said the reduction was tied to shifting project demands. “The reduction in workforce affecting 124 employees is a result of changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams,” the company added in a statement. It also noted that leadership would be reworked. “A transition plan is underway, and further updates will be shared as new leadership is finalised.”
Eidos Montreal was acquired by Embracer Group from Square Enix in 2022 and has not shipped a title since that sale. Over recent years the studio saw several projects cancelled, with reporting naming a new Deus Ex project and a rumored Soul Reaver reboot among the efforts that did not reach completion. Last year there were also reports the team pitched another Deus Ex concept to publishers without success.
Those cancellations and previous rounds of staff cuts have left the studio operating under constrained conditions, and the latest round of job losses represents one of the largest recent reductions at the Montreal-based studio. For background on the studio’s halted projects, see a report on an attempted Legacy of Kain reboot that surfaced during earlier coverage.
