EA Responds to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Microtransactions Criticism, Pre-Order Cancel Link

Stars Wars Battlefront 2 is close to its release, and the more we get to the release day the more everyone gets buzz around the microtransactions. Fans are not supporters of a Pay to Win game, not any of them. That’s why Electronic Arts devs have somehow responded to all the criticism on the official Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Reddit page.

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.

Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

It’s classic, let’s be honest. This feels like it’s “we hear the fans but it is what it is” and we have to do it that way. Players should be getting all the heroes since the beginning. It just doesn’t make sense to buy a full game for quite a decent price and to be pushed to buy those heroes. It’s usually the other way around. You release the game for free and then you give players a chance to buy heroes.

EA stated also that they will somehow deal with all of the issues, but for some reason, they have publicly announced the pre-order cancel link on the official Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Reddit page, for which we’re sure it will hurt them a bit. Players will definitely decide to opt out before the full launch occurs. To be honest, it smells like the game will first and foremost become free because of a fan base failure.

As for Heroes and Crates cost, they are determined by data from the Open Beta. At least that’s how EA brought it down.

Update:

It seems like after the big boycott, EA has decided to lower down the prices for Darth Vader and Luke by 75%. That lowers the price to 15,000 credits. However, it seems like it’s too late for any changes since players have already begun the refund process.
