Electronic Arts is putting a lot of faith in Battlefield 6 (which isn’t the official title yet), assembling hundreds of developers from various studios to work on it. The series has struggled for years, but if this new entry hits the right notes, it could bring Battlefield back to the spotlight.
What’s wild is that EA’s leadership reportedly wants to reach a staggering 100 million players with this game. To put that in perspective, the entire franchise hadn’t even sold that many copies as of 2022. Wow, that’s a huge target to shoot for!
According to an Ars Technica report, Battlefield 6, also known as ‘Project Glacier’, is expected to launch potentially before April 2026. EA’s leadership thinks the game could rival giants like Call of Duty and Fortnite in player count, largely thanks to a free-to-play battle royale mode that should attract a massive crowd.
One EA employee noted that Battlefield has never hit these numbers before. For example, Battlefield 2042 only reached around 22 million players, whereas the best-selling game in the series, Battlefield 1, sold roughly 30 million copies. So, EA’s plan sounds kinda optimistic, right?
The report also revealed that this will be the most expensive Battlefield game to date, with a budget of nearly half a billion dollars as of 2023. That’s a considerable investment, but will it be enough to bring the series its best entry yet? Honestly, some folks at EA are skeptical.
