Dying Light: The Beast Offers Way More Content Than Expected, With Up to 50 Hours to Play

Techland's latest Dying Light expansion might double its playtime with extra story and side quests.

Dying Light: The Beast is turning out to be a bigger deal than even its creators thought. Originally pegged as an 18-hour experience, the game’s main story now clocks in at about 20 hours, but that’s just half the picture.

Tymon Smektala, the franchise director, shared with GamesRadar+ that, in addition to the core story, players will find an extra 20 to 30 hours of “additional stuff“, think secrets, side quests, and other activities scattered throughout the game world. Therefore, the total playtime could reach a substantial 40 to 50 hours. Honestly, I’m surprised it’s this extensive, considering it was initially intended to be a smaller DLC-sized project.

Smektala emphasized that this expansion has grown significantly over the past few months and that Techland really wants Dying Light: The Beast to stand out among AAA titles. The focus isn’t just on the size of the map but on how enjoyable it feels to look at it. That’s kinda refreshing, right? Instead of just a sprawling map, you get a world that’s fun to move around in.

For those worried about slogging through a massive RPG, don’t sweat it. The story itself stays neat and compact at 20 hours, which should be manageable for most players. Additionally, the extra content provides ample opportunities for those who want to delve deeper without forcing it on everyone.

One cool tidbit: internal playtesters have rated the final mission as the best quest in the game, and Smektala is really hoping players don’t skip it. So if you’re thinking about how long this game will keep you hooked, it looks like it’s got a solid run ahead.
