Dune: Awakening – October 2025 Developer Update details cargo containers, transfers, and Chapter 3

Funcom’s October developer update on Steam outlines a December cargo container for Carrier Ornithopters, imminent character transfers and a Base Backup Tool test, and Chapter 3 slated for Q1 2026.

Funcom published a developer update on Steam in October 2025 that outlines several near- and long-term plans for Dune: Awakening, including vehicle logistics and a roadmap for Chapter 3. The post follows earlier community conversations and fixes and fleshes out timing for items players have been asking for. The update is available as a developer update on Steam, and it recaps progress since the previous roadmap post we covered in September.

Cargo containers and traveling with vehicles

One of the short-term features called out is a cargo container for Carrier Ornithopters. The update says the upcoming patch will first add the ability to travel between maps while you have harnessed vehicles, and the cargo container itself is planned for the December update. That will let players carry more gear when moving between Worlds and Sietches.

Expanded player event log

The team is expanding the player logging system, building on changes that shipped with Chapter 2 and planning a broader rollout with Chapter 3. The long-term goal is to record meaningful events like withdrawals and deposits, resource refinement, building tool actions, and more, while adding clearer categories to make the log easier to search.

Balance work

Balance remains an ongoing process. The update calls out a planned Rapier rework that needs more time, alongside smaller, faster tweaks such as the recent Crippling Strike adjustments that lower stamina dash costs and increase dash distance so escapes feel less punishing. Expect some changes via smaller updates and others to arrive as part of larger tuning passes.

Character transfers, Base Backup Tool, and server merges

Character transfers are in active testing and, if that goes well, should be ready within a few weeks. Transfers will move character progress, inventory, and banked items to a chosen World and Sietch. To help with relocations, Funcom will introduce a Base Backup Tool that stores a base and nearly all its contents as an item in your inventory. That tool will be available to test on the Public Test Client next week and Funcom says more details will be shared before the feature goes live.

The update adds that server merges will follow later and that the team will publish a schedule and guidance before merging begins so players have time to prepare.

Chapter 3 – Q1 2026

Chapter 3 is slated for Q1 2026 and focuses on deepening the endgame. Plans include converting the Landsraad into a contract-based system for repeatable PVE activities, adding character specializations, continuing the main story, and other improvements. When these systems arrive, the Deep Desert will be returned to a sandbox role where players can contest spice control.

Dune: Awakening Chapter 3 concept or landscape

The post also notes ongoing bug fixing, balance updates, and quality-of-life work such as an in-game vendor for past Twitch Drops arriving in November.

We previously covered the developer livestream in September and related fixes; for reference, see our write-up on the developer update livestream and our coverage of the patch that added vehicle recovery so sandworms no longer mean permanent loss: vehicle recovery patch details. If you want to try the transfer and backup tools early, keep an eye on the Public Test Client announcement and the Steam news post for instructions on when the test goes live. Questions and feedback remain important to the team, and they continue to monitor Discord, Reddit, and Steam discussions for changes players want to see.
