Diablo 4’s Skovos preview puts fishing and Warlock combat in the spotlight
IGN's new 21-minute video showed the Skovos region, a Warlock run through Saltwind Stronghold, and Diablo 4's surprisingly literal fishing minigame.

Diablo 4 picked up another look at Lord of Hatred on April 9, 2026, with a new IGN video that focused on the expansion’s Skovos region, the Warlock, and one very strange pastime: fishing.
The 21-minute gameplay video shows the zone for the first time and spends most of its time in open-world traversal, combat, and a run through one of the region’s strongholds.
Skovos brings a full new island chain
Skovos is described as a cluster of islands sitting behind Nahantu on the world map, and the preview shows a region packed with things to do. The footage points to 3 Strongholds, 12 Dungeons, 50 Side Quests, 30 Weathered Shrines, 8 Waypoints, and 67 sub-areas to uncover.
The new hub city, Temis, also appears alongside open-world events and new enemy types, giving the area a familiar Diablo 4 structure even with the fresh setting.
Warlock combat gets another showing
The gameplay is focused on the Warlock, providing a closer look at the class in motion as the player clears the Saltwind Stronghold. The fight builds up to a boss battle against The Fathomless One, with tentacles rising from the ground during the encounter.
That makes the preview more than a sightseeing tour. It also gives a practical look at how the new class handles a packed combat space and a boss arena built around pressure from multiple directions.
Fishing is now part of the loop
The most unexpected addition in the video is fishing. Players can cast a line from the emote wheel when standing near water, and the minigame appears to depend on timing before the catch lands beside the character.
And yes, the preview also shows fishing in lava.
For now, Skovos looks like Diablo 4’s familiar open-world formula moved into a new setting, with a few extra systems layered on top. Lord of Hatred will launch on April 28, 2026, so players do not have long to wait before they can see how all of this fits together in the expansion.
