Activision Blizzard has reported impressive pre-sales figures for its highly anticipated title, Diablo 4, before its launch on June 6th, 2023. The game, which will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC, has generated strong demand indicators, reflecting the enthusiasm of the gaming community.
In its Q1 2023 financial results, the company revealed a 25% year-over-year increase in net bookings and a 70% rise in first-quarter GAAP operating income. Segment operating income, which includes the investment for Diablo 4’s launch, grew by 30% but remained broadly stable year-over-year due to higher development and marketing costs.
Diablo 4‘s open beta, which took place in March, received high engagement levels and positive feedback from gamers. The strong pre-sale figures suggest this excitement carries over into the game’s release.
Activision Blizzard has ambitious plans for Diablo 4 as a live service, with regular seasons and story-driven expansions designed to engage players for many years. While specific details about Season 1 and its Premium Battle Pass are still under wraps, the company has confirmed that actual story content will be delivered every quarter.
To ensure a smooth launch, a Server Slam Beta event is scheduled for May 12th to 14th. This test will help Blizzard identify potential issues and optimize the game’s performance before its official release.
As part of the Diablo franchise, Diablo 4 is expected to contribute to the growth of the Blizzard segment, which has already seen a 62% year-over-year revenue increase in the first quarter. The company’s other popular titles, such as Warcraft and Overwatch, supported this growth.
