Nintendo has revealed new details regarding upgrades for Nintendo Switch Online as it prepares for the arrival of the Switch 2. Among these updates are free upgrade packs that will improve the experience of several popular titles.
Nintendo Switch Online Upgrade Packs
Players subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack can look forward to upgrade packs that allow them to enjoy The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in their upgraded versions at no extra charge. To access these benefits, players must own the original games on their Nintendo Switch and maintain their subscription status.
GameChat with Nintendo Switch Online
A Nintendo Switch Online membership will be necessary to access game chat features on the Switch 2. Players can enjoy this functionality without a paid membership until March 2026, when a membership will be required once again.
Nintendo GameCube Available through Nintendo Classics
The library available through Nintendo Switch Online has been rebranded as Nintendo Classics, now featuring an array of titles from the Nintendo GameCube. Subscribers to the Expansion Pack can access classic games such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX, and Soulcalibur II, with more titles promised in future updates.
Nintendo Switch Online App Changes
The smart device application has been renamed to the Nintendo Switch app. It continues to provide voice chat and game-specific services tailored for supported titles. An interesting addition is “Zelda Notes,” a feature explicitly dedicated to the upgraded editions of both Zelda titles mentioned earlier. This updated app allows Users to access their last 100 screenshots and video captures easily.
