Bungie has announced that Destiny 2’s big upcoming The Witch Queen expansion has been delayed to early 2022. The DLC was originally estimated to release sometime this year, but due to other complications, it’s been delayed.
One of the main reasons for the delay is the COVID 19 global pandemic, which has heavily impacted other titles. Another reason is Bungie’s ambition to make this expansion as great as they can, so that’s why they’ll take their time to “build out this journey in the right way.” Bungie assistant game director Joe Blackburn wrote:
With COVID-19 keeping us away from the office, and the large amount of work on our plates, we needed to move the date in order to make sure that both this year’s updates and The Witch Queen were both delivered at the quality we strive for, and on a schedule that made sense for everyone involved,
After The Witch Queen, Bungie has their ambition on Lightfall, which will be the last expansion of Destiny 2’s current arc that should contain: Beyond Light (which was released last year), The Witch Queen, and Lightfall.
