Destiny 2’s New $15 Starter Pack Sparks Controversy Among Players

Destiny 2 has recently introduced a new Starter Pack priced at $15, causing a stir among its player base. Aimed at newcomers, this pack includes a range of Exotic items and materials but has raised concerns among the community for potentially exploiting inexperienced players.

The Starter Pack for Destiny 2 includes an array of items that would certainly catch the eye of any new player. It features three Exotic weapons: Traveler’s Chosen, Ruinous Effigy, and Sleeper Simulant, which are significant draws for players unfamiliar with the game’s vast arsenal. Additionally, the pack offers an Exotic Ship, Sparrow, and Ghost Shell, along with 125,000 Glimmer, 50 Enhancement Cores, five Enhancement Prisms, and one Ascendant Shard.

The backlash from the community stems from a perception that the pack serves more as a trap for new players rather than a helpful boost. The concern is that newcomers, unfamiliar with the game’s economy and value system, might be coaxed into spending money on items they could otherwise earn through gameplay. This sentiment is particularly strong given the recent calls for the developer, Bungie, to make the game more accessible for new players.

This Starter Pack controversy is not an isolated incident. It comes on the heels of various challenges faced by Bungie, including reports of revenues not meeting expectations, a delay in the release of ‘The Final Shape’, and backlash over recent layoffs. These factors combine to create a tense environment where decisions like the introduction of a paid Starter Pack are scrutinized heavily.
