Deltarune Leads Switch 2 Digital Sales in June, Mario Kart World Reigns in Player Activity

Deltarune topped digital sales on Switch 2 in June while Mario Kart World dominated active player counts.

June was a huge month for Nintendo Switch 2 games, with new data revealing that Deltarune claimed the top spot in digital sales across key markets, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. Meanwhile, Mario Kart World was the most played game, showing just how strong Nintendo’s racing franchise is.

According to sales figures gathered by Newzoo, Deltarune was the best-selling digital title in June, just ahead of Mario Kart World. However, this ranking only counts digital copies and does not include bundled or physical sales, where Mario Kart World clearly led overall. So yeah, digital sales crowned Deltarune, but Mario Kart World still crushed it in total sales.

Other top digital sellers included Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour at number two, followed by Minecraft and No Man’s Sky, rounding out the top five.

When it comes to eShop revenue share, Mario Kart World took first place, with Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky also making the list alongside Fantasy Life I and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.

Here’s where it gets even crazier: Mario Kart World had the highest number of monthly active users on Switch 2, beating out Fortnite. This includes players on both the new Switch 2 and the original Switch, meaning Mario Kart World was the most played game across Nintendo’s whole ecosystem.

Following Mario Kart World and Fortnite, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came in third place, demonstrating the franchise’s continued dominance. Even older Switch titles, especially those updated for Switch 2 like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, saw big jumps in active users thanks to performance improvements.

The Nintendo Switch 2 itself has been flying off the shelves, selling 3.5 million units globally in its first four days, making it Nintendo’s fastest-selling system ever. If sales continue, it might even outsell the original Switch’s first-year numbers, which is wild considering the competition from PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 launches in previous years.

So what does this all mean? Is Deltarune’s digital success a sign of growing interest in indie or narrative games on Switch 2? Or will Mario Kart World keep its crown as the king of player engagement? Either way, it’s clear Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a roaring start with a mix of fresh and legacy titles grabbing attention.
