Death Stranding 2 finally behaves on Steam Deck after patch 1.2
Nixxes' latest PC update added Steam Deck performance improvements, and the game now runs far better on Valve's handheld than it did at launch.

Death Stranding 2 is in a much better place on Steam Deck after patch 1.2, with the latest PC update turning a rough handheld experience into something far more playable.
When the game launched on PC last month, it struggled badly on Valve’s handheld. On an OLED Steam Deck, frame rates bounced through the teens and mid-20s, with long pauses in between, which made the early PC version a poor fit for portable play. That was especially disappointing given how well Death Stranding: Director’s Cut had already aged on Deck.
That changed with patch 1.2, which Nixxes released last week for the PC version. Among the performance tweaks, the notes specifically called out improved Steam Deck support. The update also followed the same pattern Nixxes has established with other PlayStation ports that have run well on the handheld, including the modern Spider-Man games, both The Last of Us releases, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
After reinstalling the game, the difference was clear. Using the default portable preset, the game was running at roughly 30 to 35 fps during normal open-world play and around 50 fps indoors. The tradeoff is battery life, which drops hard, with about an hour and a half of play at best.
The update also matters because it does not just help Steam Deck. Patch 1.2 included broader stability and performance work, plus fixes for HDR Photo Mode screenshots, DualShock 4 trigger input through Steam Input, map UI issues, graphics bugs, and other input and interface problems.
