Dead Island 2 Plans on Expanding To A New Platform

When Dead Island 2 hit shelves earlier this year for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via the Epic Games Store, fans were overjoyed. Now, a new chapter unfolds for the game as it aims to expand its reach to another platform.

Embracer Group CEO, Lars Wingefors, reflected on the game’s performance, noting its initial solid showing. “I think Dead Island had a really strong release window, then we have been seeing more normal performance, according to expectations,” said Wingefors in the company’s recent quarterly earnings call.

The game’s launch was undeniably impressive, racking up one million sales in just three days and two million in its first month. But beyond those numbers, what’s exciting for fans and investors alike is what’s on the horizon. Wingefors hinted at what’s to come, stating, “What we now expect obviously is promotions, but primarily the addition of new content coming through, so there is a significant amount of content coming through for the game in the year, that would improve the sales of the base game as well. Then looking a year ahead, we would have a release on another platform that will also drive multiple sales.”

While Wingefors remained coy about which platform Dead Island 2 might call its next home, there’s speculation within the gaming community. Will it debut on Steam, considering its current PC exclusivity on the Epic Games Store? Or, with the anticipated launch of a new Nintendo system in late 2024, could we possibly see the game’s arrival there? For more insights, VGC’s article offers a closer look.

As for content, fans won’t be disappointed. Two expansions, Haus and SOLA Festival, are in the pipeline, releasing in Q4 2023 and Q2 2024, respectively. Both are part of the game’s $29.99 / £24.99 Expansion Pass, promising more thrilling content for dedicated players.
