DayZ has reached a massive milestone by attracting more than one million new players on its first day as a free title for PlayStation Plus subscribers. This sudden surge caused server capacity issues, showing just how popular the survival classic still is years after its original release.
Multiplayer games often get a boost when added to PlayStation Plus, so it’s not surprising that DayZ saw such a large influx of players. Bohemia Interactive prepared by adding over 300 new servers, but the demand was still so high that some players experienced issues connecting.
Bohemia acknowledged these problems on X, apologizing to those affected and promising more servers to improve the experience soon. Wow, that’s a lot of fresh survivors jumping into Chernarus and Livonia!
📢Good news, survivors!
DayZ has been claimed by 1.3 million new players through PlayStation Plus monthly games. On Day 1 alone, over 300,000 freshies arrived in Chernarus and Livonia.
We hope you’ve already met some friendly survivors out there. To those who experienced server… pic.twitter.com/1T4qufo0DH

Originally released in 2018 for PC and then for Xbox One and PS4 a year later, DayZ stays a strong contender in the survival genre. Despite its age, the game keeps its player base engaged with regular updates and expansions. The most recent update, released last month, introduced new weapons and fixes that continue to improve gameplay.
Will this wave of new players stick around? Given the loyalty of the DayZ community and the game’s tense, addictive nature, I wouldn’t be shocked if many do. Maybe PlayStation Plus is helping a new generation discover what makes this survival shooter special.
