Fatshark revealed a new mode for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide as part of the Beyond the Hive update launching March 17, 2026. Dubbed “expeditions,” the mode pulls players out of Hive Tertium and into open, sun‑bleached areas of Atoma Prime to scavenge valuable Tech‑Remnants and try to make it back alive.
The expeditions play like a PvE extraction run. Teams move through explorable scavenge zones, pick up Tech‑Remnants, and then try to exit before environmental hazards become crippling. Fatshark warned that radiation and pollution will limit how long players can linger in those areas. The developer’s blog post on Steam said, “if time runs out and you die, you get nothing,” framing the mode as a hard tradeoff between time and reward.
Fatshark said expeditions won’t be procedurally generated in the strict sense, but they will be “very randomized,” offering different encounters and layouts on repeated runs. Open environments bring roaming patrols and longer sightlines, so squads will need to change tactics from the close-quarters, hive interiors most players are used to. The studio also noted that if players engage too often, the game may spawn additional enemies, encouraging a more cautious approach. Beyond the Hive and its expeditions arrive March 17, 2026, as a free update for existing players.
