Ironmace Games has posted for Dark and Darker says the game will adjust shard pricing ahead of Early Access Season 8 (EA8). They revealed the base value of Redstone Shards and confirms a balance revaluation that affects both Redstone and Bluestone shards. Starting with EA8, the base value for one Redstone Shard will be $1 USD. The post notes the previous base value was $2 USD. The developer will double players’ existing shard balances during the update so that the real-world value of current holdings remains the same. The update applies to both Redstone and Bluestone Shards.
Key changes
- Currency Adjustment. 1 Redstone Shard = $1 USD (was $2 USD).
- Balance Adjustment. All existing Redstone and Bluestone Shards in player inventories will be doubled during the update.
- Shop Price Adjustment. The Redstone Shard and Bluestone Shard prices for all existing products in the in-game Shop will be doubled to preserve their real-world purchase value under the new shard valuation.
Examples
- If a player currently has 6 Redstone Shards, their balance will become 12 after the EA8 update.
- If a skin currently costs 6 Redstone Shards, its price will change to 12 after the EA8 update.
Note: The actual monetary value (USD) required to purchase in-game shop items remains unchanged.
The change is intended to make shop pricing easier to read and to allow for more lower-cost cosmetic options in future shop updates. The currency revaluation will take effect with Early Access Season 8; for context, a recent hotfix set Season 8 to begin on January 29, 2026 and is linked in the game’s update notes. See the Hotfix #105 coverage for the season timing.
Keep an eye on your shard totals when EA8 arrives and on any shop price updates that follow.
