As the anticipation for CD Projekt Red’s new Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, “Phantom Liberty,” heightens, a warning has emerged for PC players about the potential strain it could place on their systems.
The game’s lead scene programmer, Filip Pierściński, has sent out a stark reminder to players: be prepared. Taking to Twitter, he highlighted the substantial demands the upcoming expansion, combined with the Version 2.0 update, might make on a user’s PC, particularly concerning CPU workload.
Pierściński’s tweet reads: “Before release CP2077 2.0 and PL please check conditions of your cooling systems in PC. We use all what you have, so workload on CPU 90% on 8 core is expected. To save your time please run Cinebench or similar and check stability of your systems .”
The reference to Cinebench is noteworthy. Cinebench, a popular, free program, tests the capability of a PC’s hardware. Players can gauge their PC is readiness for the anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 update using this or similar software.
But why the need for such a significant update? CD Projekt Red attributes its decision to release just a single expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 to technological evolution. Last month, the company shed light on its transition to Unreal Engine development. This strategic move followed the company’s announcement in March 2022 about a 15-year partnership with Epic, with plans to collaborate on multiple Unreal Engine projects, spanning engine and game development.
This shift means that alongside the excitement for the Phantom Liberty release, fans can also expect significant changes in the gameplay and mechanics of Cyberpunk 2077. The Version 2.0 update promises an entirely revamped gaming experience.
