Cyberpunk 2077, from CD Projekt Red, sold more physical copies than digital on the Nintendo Switch 2, according to the developer’s H1 2025 earnings report published on August 29, 2025. The report states that more than 75% of the game’s Switch 2 purchases were physical cartridges that include the Phantom Liberty expansion.
The developer credits the high physical take to shipping the whole game and expansion on a single 64GB game card, as well as the convenience of a plug-and-play experience. The earnings document itself is linked as the official earnings report.
“This dominance of physical sales continues into the current quarter with additional stock orders coming in,” he said. “In the long run, we expect the breakdown of sales between these channels to reflect our past experiences with the share of digital sales progressively increasing as time goes by. It’s worth noting that physical and digital sales channels have different economics. Digital sales naturally yield higher net revenue, while physical copies involve additional manufacturing and packaging costs as well as distributor fees.”
CD Projekt Red also suggested that the Switch 2 enhancements for the port would reach a new audience and that digital sales may increase over time as stock and awareness change. Oh, physical collectors probably felt satisfied getting everything on one card.
