Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer will have microtransactions

Cyberpunk 2077 will have its multiplayer counterpart installed at a later date. So far, it hasn’t been discovered how one of the most anticipated games at this point would monetize from its multiplayer version of the game. Until today, it was ambiguous if the game would include some microtransactions so that the developers can keep the multiplayer breathing.

We know how microtransactions can be controversial, especially if there is a Pay2Win intention. It may ruin your favorite game. In this case,  that probably won’t be the case. Nevertheless, microtransactions help the developers maintain their focus on the game and keep content coming so that players can enjoy playing. Being multiplayer, it indeed requires special nurturing, as we know how good single-player titles usually failed in their multiplayer acquisitions quite often.

In a recent Q&A (via GameRant), it was discovered that CD Projekt RED is planning to include microtransactions in Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer version. It was also found that there are no p2win intentions and will probably serve with cosmetics or weapon skins. As per the developer’s words:

We’re never aggressive towards our fans! We treat them fairly and we’re friendly. So of course not – we won’t be aggressive – but you can expect great things to be bought. The goal is to design monetization in a way that makes people happy to spend money. I’m not trying to be cynical or hide something; it’s about creating a feeling of value. Same as with our single-player games: we want gamers to be happy while spending money on our products. The same is true for microtransactions: you can expect them, of course, and CP is a great setting for selling things, but it won’t be aggressive; it won’t upset gamers but it’ll make them happy – that’s our goal at least.

Many people would see this as a harmful addition to the game. Multiple other titles that have managed to break through on the market have succeeded thanks to such monetization. Therefore, there’s nothing bitter to bang our heads against the wall, except to support CD Projekt RED on their way of creating this masterpiece.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release for November 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and its multiplayer version is destined to arrive somewhere in 2021.
