Cross-Play Option is Coming to Black Ops 6 and Warzone Ranked Play

Players will soon have the choice to disable cross-play in Ranked Play.

Activision is introducing this new feature to improve console users’ gaming experience. Many players have expressed concerns about the competitive balance when matched against PC players, particularly in high-stakes environments like Ranked Play.

This option is currently undergoing testing and is scheduled for release with Season 2, which kicks off on January 28. It’s a timely update, especially considering that Ranked Play launched just last November and requires players to secure at least 50 multiplayer wins before jumping into competitive matches.

The issue of cheating has been front and center since the launch of Ranked Play. Activision has reported taking action against over 136,000 accounts, highlighting how cheating disrupts gameplay for everyone involved. Their community update acknowledged these frustrations while outlining measures to combat such practices. They’re rolling out improvements that include “new and improved client and server-side detection systems,” a “major kernel-level driver update,” along with a “new tampering detection system.”

Interestingly, Activision explained why they opted against IP-based bans. The reasoning? Such bans could inadvertently target entire networks, like college campuses or internet cafes when only one computer might be responsible for foul play. This thoughtful approach shows their commitment to keeping the community intact while addressing concerns about cheating.

Treyarch, the developer behind this beloved franchise, has also hinted at exciting content additions for Zombies as Season 2 approaches. A brand new map titled The Tomb is set to grace players’ screens, adding more layers of excitement beyond just competitive play.

  • New Feature: Option to disable cross-play in Ranked Play (console only).
  • Sneak Peek: Season 2 launches on January 28.
  • Bans: Over 136,000 accounts banned due to cheating issues.
  • Acknowledgment: Activision addresses player frustration regarding cheating impacts on gameplay.
  • Security Updates:
    • “New and improved client and server-side detections.”
    • “Major kernel-level driver update.”
    • “New tampering detection system.”
  • No IP-Based Bans:
    • “We do not utilize IP-based bans for anti-cheat because they tend to take action against entire groups within a range that aren’t problematic.”

If you’re eager for more details about this upcoming season or want insights into what else is coming your way in Black Ops 6, you can find them directly from Activision’s official blog post here.

This change could reshape how console players engage with each other competitively. What are your thoughts on disabling cross-play? Will it affect your strategy moving forward? Feel free to share your opinions below!
