Crossplay is back in College Football 26, but only for next-gen consoles. If you loved teaming up or battling friends in College Football 25, you’ll want to hear about how EA Sports handled this feature in the latest installment. It’s cool that crossplay is more integrated, especially in game modes like Dynasty.
College Football 26 has three main modes: Dynasty, Road to Glory, and Ultimate Team. EA added over 300 real-world coaches to Dynasty, revamped the coaching carousel, included a trophy room, and improved transfer portal consistency. Road to Glory and Ultimate Team received quality-of-life updates and the option to start Road to Glory in high school. But the fun multiplies when you can play with friends, and that’s where crossplay shines.
Crossplay is supported between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, allowing players on these platforms to team up or compete against each other. However, College Football 26 isn’t available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4, so if you’re on those platforms, you’re out of luck.
If you’re on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, using crossplay is pretty straightforward:
- Open the EA Connect menu in College Football 26
- Go to the Player Search tab
- Look up a player by their EA ID or platform-specific username (Xbox gamertag or PSN ID)
- Invite them to join a game or Dynasty save
Crossplay works in Dynasty, Road to the College Football Playoff, College Football Ultimate Team, and Play a Friend. This is the first time Dynasty mode supports crossplay, letting you build a 32-person Online Dynasty with friends. By default, crossplay is on in Online Dynasties but the commissioner can disable it in League Settings.
Heads up: the Auction House in Ultimate Team doesn’t support crossplay. That means PS5 players can only buy cards listed by other PS5 users, and Xbox Series X|S players can only buy from their own platform’s listings. This could lead to higher card prices since the market is split.
Crossplay is enabled by default but you can turn it off if you want, no matter which console you’re on. Here’s how:
Xbox Series X|S
- Open your Xbox settings
- Go to Account > Privacy and Online Safety
- Click Xbox Live Privacy
- Select View Details & Customise
- Choose Communications & Multiplayer
- Set “You can play with people outside of Xbox Live” to Block
PlayStation 5
- Open the in-game Settings tab
- Select Gameplay Settings
- Toggle the crossplay option off
EA Sports also revealed updates for Team Builder, a refreshed presentation overhaul, and gameplay improvements ahead of the July launch. I wonder how much of a difference those changes will make in the heat of a close game!
So, are you pumped about crossplay in College Football 26? Will you be trying out Online Dynasty with friends on different consoles? Let me know your thoughts in the comments—I’m curious how many of you are diving into cross-platform play!
