On December 13, 2025 Arcanaut Studios co-founder Casey Hudson wrote on X that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will release before 2030, saying the team is working on a roughly four and a half year development cycle and adding, “Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger!” Hudson’s post contains the brief statement.
Don’t worry about the “not till 2030” rumors. Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger! https://t.co/YKYQFgXOGR

The comment followed an assessment from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier that a 2030 launch window was “optimistic,” given Lucasfilm’s note that Arcanaut was founded this year.
Last night's biggest surprise was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, led by Casey Hudson, who directed KOTOR (and Anthem). Exciting news for lots of people… but Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, which means that 2030 is an *optimistic* guess. Maybe it'll be a PlayStation 7 game

Arcanaut was publicly announced around the Game Awards in December and Hudson is credited as the project’s director; earlier coverage summarized the reveal and Hudson’s role. For background on the announcement see our writeup Casey Hudson is directing.
Hudson closed his previous studio, Humanoid Origin, in November 2024 and listed his founder and CEO role at Arcanaut beginning in July 2025, so the team is newly formed even if some concept work started earlier. Delivering a large single-player action RPG inside the timeframe Hudson suggested will require rapid hiring and ramping up production on art, systems, and engineering. The statement is narrowly worded and appeared on a social post rather than as a formal release date. The studio has not shared a detailed roadmap or milestones publicly. The claim has drawn attention because of how quickly Arcanaut will need to scale to meet modern triple-A production demands.
