Arcanaut Studios and Lucasfilm Games announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic at The Game Awards on December 11, 2025, naming Casey Hudson as game director. The project is described in a press release as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG and a spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The studio says the game will tell a new story where player decisions shape the character’s path toward light or darkness.
Casey Hudson, who directed the original Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy, is leading the team at Arcanaut Studios. Hudson said the project builds on lessons from his earlier work and aims to deliver a focused, choice-driven Star Wars adventure. According to the announcement, Arcanaut is working with a team of veteran developers and storytellers alongside Lucasfilm Games. Jay Ong, president of Disney Games Group, called Hudson’s leadership a key reason for the partnership and praised the studio’s vision for a high-quality Star Wars experience.
The first trailer for Fate of the Old Republic was released with the announcement.
