Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is said to be missing from the Switch 2 launch lineup, according to a source with a strong track record. This update matters because Microsoft had publicly committed to bringing future Call of Duty games to Nintendo platforms, so the absence of Black Ops 7 at launch is quite a surprise.
Insider billbil-kun confirms that despite Microsoft’s promise, Black Ops 7 won’t be available on Switch 2 when it releases on November 14 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game might still come to Switch 2 later, but it won’t be ready on day one.
Why would Microsoft make such a promise but then not have the game ready? It seems the challenge is technical rather than strategic. Activision likely hasn’t had enough time to port and optimize the game for the new Nintendo console, which launched only a couple of months ago. Given the legally binding 10-year agreement Microsoft signed to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms with full feature parity, it doesn’t look like a refusal to support Switch 2 but rather a timing issue.
Interestingly, the last Call of Duty game on a Nintendo system was Call of Duty: Ghosts for Wii U back in 2013, which featured motion controls with the Wii Remote. So, it’s been quite a while since Nintendo players had a CoD experience. Microsoft’s gaming head, Phil Spencer, has expressed strong support for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox franchises working together, calling Nintendo important for the industry.
Maybe this delay is a bump in the road rather than a dead end. Will Switch 2 owners get to enjoy Black Ops 7 eventually? I hope so, because Call of Duty on Nintendo has been missed. Wow, what a wait it’s been!
Let’s chat about this in the comments. Are you disappointed that Black Ops 7 won’t launch on Switch 2? Or do you think it’s better to wait for a well-optimized port?
