Bungie will host the first Marathon esports event, the Tau Ceti Cup, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, exactly one week after Marathon’s March 5 launch. The studio framed the Tau Ceti Cup as a creator showmatch rather than a formal pro circuit, though Marathon does include a ranked mode and clear competitive hooks.
Six creator teams will compete in the inaugural showmatch. The event lineup and rosters are published by the organizer and list the following teams and players.

The winning team will receive custom-made Marathon jackets created by Australian cosplayer Vamprea, and viewers can earn in-game rewards through Twitch drops during the broadcast. Bungie is also running a separate invite-only Marathon Australia Invitational for Australian creators, with the winning team receiving the same custom jackets plus the game’s collector’s edition. The event organizer posted the Twitch drops window and details on X, which can be found just below:

The instructions list the qualification steps to claim drops as follows:
- Link your Bungie.net account to your Twitch account
- Watch a Marathon stream of one of the competitors on Saturday, March 14, between 15:00 EDT/13:00 GMT and 19:00 EDT/15:00 GMT in the Twitch Directory with Drops enabled during the event
- Claim each reward from your Twitch Inventory, then log in to Marathon to receive them

A PvP-focused extraction shooter set on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon will see players inhabit the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments and explore the lost colony that once inhabited Tau Ceti’s surface. Players will engage solo or in crews of three, searching for mysterious alien artifacts, as well as for valuable loot and new weapons and gear that they can add to their collection.
