Borderlands 4 updates for the rest of 2025 are now laid out, with Gearbox planning a trio of seasonal events and a major December content drop. The schedule includes a Halloween event, a paid Bounty Pack timed for the holidays, and the franchise’s first Invincible Boss, all ahead of a story update that will introduce a new Vault Hunter early next year. Gearbox’s recap is available on the official Borderlands 4 site.
Horrors of Kairos Halloween Event – October 23 to November 6
-
- A Halloween Pumpkin Head for all classes
- One weapon skin
- One legendary grenade that drops from a World Boss, called “Skully” – first projectiles seek out the nearest target
- One legendary weapon that drops from a World Boss, called “Murmur” – an assault rifle that executes weakened enemies and guarantees crits under 35 percent health
- Seasonal weather variant
- Event access will be free to all players
How Rush Saved Mercenary Day Christmas Bounty Pack – November 20
- Four legendary guns
- Five weapon skins
- Four head skins for all classes
- Two Vault Hunter skins for all classes
- Five ECHO drone skins
- Two ECHO attachments
- Five vehicle skins
- One new vehicle
- New Rush-based story missions
Gearbox will also introduce the first in-game “Vault Card,” a persistent progression pass similar to a battle pass that will grant extra XP and rewards and will not expire.
Invincible Boss Free Addition – December
- The first Invincible Boss added to Borderlands 4, described as one of the series toughest challenges
- Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode 6, increasing game difficulty
- New legendary weapons, likely dropped by the Invincible Boss
A story pack is scheduled for 2026, and Gearbox has previewed C4SH, a new card-slinging robot Vault Hunter. The preview suggests a change from Borderlands 3, which added new skill trees rather than new Vault Hunters.
Some players have reacted to the lineup by comparing it to past Borderlands event offerings. Comments referenced Borderlands 3 events and the scale of post-launch content, and questions were raised about Gearbox’s post-launch resources. A large patch that will include buffs and several nerfs is due to arrive alongside the Halloween event on October 23, 2025. That update will target several broken builds and other balance issues.
