Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 might allow players to keep their skins and Blueprints from Black Ops 6, according to its ESRB rating, but not everyone is excited about this possibility. While it sounds like a nice perk to hold on to your purchased content, some fans are less enthusiastic, especially because of the crossover skins featured in BO6.
Usually, a new Call of Duty brings a fresh start: new guns, maps, and skins. That’s the norm for multiplayer modes, unlike Warzone, which merges content across many titles since current Warfare 2. But when current Warfare 3 launched in 2023, it kept all purchases and unlocks from the previous game, MW2, since they were closely connected.
Since Black Ops 7 is expected in 2025, just a year after Black Ops 6, many players think it will follow a similar path. The ESRB rating for BO7 mentions characters inhaling from a “bong-like structure attached to a rifle” during executions, which matches the ‘Bongshot’ Blueprint and ‘Toke-a-Bloke’ Finishing Move from BO6. This strongly hints that some BO6 content will be available in BO7, unless the new game independently offers similar 420-themed items from the start.

On paper, being able to carry forward all your unlocks sounds like a win for players who invested in skins and Blueprints. Yet, some folks are turned off by the crossover skins that filled BO6, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, American Dad, and Beavis and Butt-Head. One player on X said, “Crazy how the idea of carry forward should be seen as a huge positive for us as consumers, but BO6 has completely ruined the idea of it with stupid collab after stupid collab… What a joke.” Another added, “I’d love stuff to carry forward, but I’m sick of seeing TMNT, American Dad, [Beavis and Butt-Head] in every game I play. Ffs.”
Others are more upbeat. One user commented, “Umm if I paid for skins, content, heck yeah I want it to carry forward. I don’t understand what I’m missing here.”
