Black Ops 7 developer Treyarch addressed concerns about map sizes and missing modes ahead of the beta weekend on October 2, 2025. Design director Matt Scronce posted replies that clarify how smaller maps and Scorestreak access will work at launch and in post-launch content.
Treyarch confirmed there will be 16 6v6 maps at launch, and three of those are remakes of Hijacked, Express, and Raid. Community voices flagged the absence of frequent mentions of Strike-sized maps and worried Faceoff or Gunfight might be missing at launch.
YouTuber ThexclusiveAce highlighted the lack of clarity, which led Matt Scronce to reply directly on X. He wrote that out of the 16 6v6 launch maps, four are smaller and will support those modes, with additional new and returning maps planned post-launch. “A change we’ve made for BO7 is to try and make sure those smaller maps can support Scorestreaks so they work for more playlists,” he added verbatim. Not all will appear everywhere.
Scronce also explained that whether a small map appears in a playlist often comes down to aerial access for Scorestreaks and the design intent of a map – the team doesn’t want to force Scorestreaks on a map that has an interesting idea which can’t support them. That places design choices ahead of a simple checklist, and gives the studio room to add maps later rather than cram everything into launch. The tweets were posted on September 3, 2025, after fan discussion spiked.
Some players asked for a blacklist option to avoid unwanted maps in certain modes, but developers note that such a tool would probably slow matchmaking and make lobbies harder to fill.
@TheXclusiveAce Saw your latest video on Face Off and Gunfight maps. Out of the 16 6v6 launch maps, 4 of those are smaller and support those modes, with new (+ some former faves) maps coming in post-launch.

Not necessarily all of them, but the goal is that more CAN be supported which mainly comes down to aerial access for Scorestreaks. We don’t want to force it either way if the team has a cool idea that can’t support Scorestreaks.
