Black Ops 6 free trial opens Oct 28 as Battlefield 6 Season One begins

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is opening its doors for a short stretch this fall, with Multiplayer and Zombies going free from October 28 to November 3. The timing is blunt and obvious – that window lines up with Battlefield 6 Season One, which also goes live on October 28 and brings the REDSEC battle royale mode. Call of Duty’s official X post lays out the trial dates and what players will get: all Multiplayer maps, Zombies playlists, and seasonal content like the Halloween event The Haunting. The new maps, Gravity and Mothball, are included in the trial. The campaign is not part of the free period, but players on Xbox can still access it via Game Pass.

With Black Ops 7 scheduled for November 14, Activision appears to be nudging players back into Black Ops 6 for a last round before the new release. Black Ops 6 did fairly well with critics and fans on launch, and this week-long push feels like a direct attempt to keep the player base engaged while Battlefield 6 rolls out a big new season. The Battlefield side is adding new weapons and maps with Season One, and REDSEC is the headline feature. If you want a quick primer on REDSEC and how it changes Battlefield 6, read the REDSEC reveal.

We previously wrote about this exact free-week move in Black Ops 6 will be free for a week during Battlefield 6 launch, where the basic dates and scope were laid out ahead of the X announcement. So what does this mean for players? For those who skipped Black Ops 6 or who walked away after launch, the free trial is a low-effort way to check current maps, modes, and seasonal events without spending money. For players already invested in Battlefield 6, the simultaneous rollout of Season One gives both shooters fresh matchmaking pools and new material to test on the same day.
