Bethesda has removed a brief clip from its official X account after users interpreted a line as referencing conservative commentator Charlie Kirk following his fatal shooting. The clip came from the new Order of Giants DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and the timing prompted a quick online backlash.
A now-deleted clip, captioned “good kitty,” was posted on September 14 and shows Indy petting a cat while saying, “you don’t care much about those fascists, do you?” Screenshots and short clips were saved and shared before the publisher pulled the post. Bethesda’s official X account has been uploading seven to 15-second posts and images tied to the DLC since release, which makes the clip look like part of a broader social push rather than a targeted comment. That pattern suggests timing, not intent, caused much of the reaction.
Set in 1937, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle places characters in an era when Hitler and Mussolini led fascist regimes, so wartime dialogue includes references that might sound sharp out of context.
Screenshots from the video have spread across X, Facebook, and TikTok after users captured the clip before it was removed. Two posts that circulated widely link back to the original upload and to the deleted post. Some users read the timing as a reference to Charlie Kirk, whose fatal shooting at Utah Valley University occurred on September 10. That proximity drove much of the online reaction, even though the clip appears to belong to routine DLC marketing.
Political tension on platforms like X and Bluesky has been high since the shooting, with fierce debate about motive and the alleged shooter’s politics. Prosecutors expect Tyler Robinson, the suspected shooter, to face charges this week.
