Bethesda’s upcoming interstellar open-world RPG, Starfield, has seemingly removed support for the Russian language, as evidenced by updates to the game’s Steam backend and its listing on SteamDB.
The SteamDB listing reveals that Russian subtitles and audio have been removed from the game, making it inaccessible to Russian-speaking players.
As of now, Microsoft and Bethesda have not issued any official statements regarding the removal of Russian language support in Starfield. It is unclear whether this policy will affect other Bethesda titles or if the change in Starfield will be reversed.
This decision follows Sony’s recent removal of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores from the Russian PlayStation Store. With more companies seemingly joining the movement, the gaming industry appears to be taking a stand against Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
Starfield is scheduled for release on September 6 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, with a dedicated Direct showcase planned for June 11.
