Battlefield 6’s open beta is crushing it right now. On Steam alone, it has attracted a peak concurrent player count of 521,000, putting it among the top three games on the platform. That’s a massive number for an open beta, and it even tops Call of Duty’s highest ever player peak.
Steam stats only tell part of the story, though. We don’t have exact player counts from the PS5 side, but the game is currently the most pre-ordered release on the PS Store in North America. In Europe, it’s second only to EA Sports FC 26. Pretty impressive, right?
Battlefield’s fanbase has always leaned towards PC, but it seems the beta’s popularity is high across the board. A developer recently mentioned that focusing solely on Steam numbers isn’t the best way to measure success since their game tracks best on PS5. Makes you wonder how big the total player count is…
If you jump into the beta on PlayStation, you’ll snag an exclusive reward for the whole game. That’s a nice little incentive to try it out on PS5.
Activision might be feeling the heat here. Battlefield 6’s open beta has drawn more players than any peak Call of Duty has ever seen. Although Activision recently claimed its franchise is “too big to fail,” these numbers might shake things up a bit. Could Call of Duty keep up with this kind of competition? Maybe it’s time for some fresh ideas, or perhaps they’ll add Teletubbies if things get rough.
One comment from a player named MFTWrecks sums it up nicely: the beta reminds them of Bad Company 2, with destruction that’s as great as ever. They say it feels like a snappier, heftier Call of Duty but with all the mayhem and bells and whistles that Battlefield fans love. Sure, some diehards might not be 100% happy, but for this player, it’s the perfect balance. I’m curious, what do you think? Are you digging the beta or not?
