Battlefield 6 players on Steam will no longer have to deal with the EA app to launch the game. Instead, all they need is an EA account. This might sound like a small relief, but for anyone who’s wrestled with launcher bloat, it’s kinda a big deal.
The multiplayer reveal event for Battlefield 6 just happened, and it came with a lot of info and gameplay footage. The game will release on October 10, 2025, and it will launch with nine multiplayer maps. Multiple betas are planned for this month so that players will get a good taste before the full release. And yes, if you’re on Steam, you won’t have to download the EA app at all.
Battlefield 6 Players Won’t Need the EA App to Play on Steam
The official Battlefield 6 FAQ cleared things up: Steam users only need an EA account to play. No launcher required. But if you buy the game through the Epic Games Store, you’ll still have to install the EA app along with having an EA account. Why the difference? Guess it’s just how the stores handle things.
Other tidbits from the FAQ include no plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 version, which might disappoint some fans. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game will have quality and performance modes, with extra enhancements for the PS5 Pro. Also, the developers are using Javelin Anticheat to keep the gameplay fair and clean. Because let’s face it, no one wants to deal with cheaters.
In addition, the devs hinted that Battlefield 6 won’t have those unrealistic skins and cosmetics that some games rely on. Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella even weighed in on whether the game needs to compete with Call of Duty to succeed. Well, it doesn’t have to. What do you think about Battlefield 6 ditching the EA app on Steam.
