Battlefield 6 Will Bring Back Signature Weapons Like in BF4

EA and DICE have officially announced that Battlefield 6 will feature a Signature Weapons system much like the one from Battlefield 4. The reveal trailer is scheduled for Thursday, July 22, 2025, and the open beta is already teasing two separate playlists for players to try out. This matters because BF4’s weapon-class setup stays one of the franchise’s most favorite mechanics.

Signature Weapons Locked by Class, Just Like BF4

David “tiggr” Sirland, the lead producer for Battlefield 6, confirmed on X that certain weapon types will be tied to specific classes.

  • Assault Rifles locked to Assault
  • Submachine Guns locked to Engineer
  • Light Machine Guns locked to Support
  • Sniper Rifles locked to Recon

Meanwhile, DMRs, shotguns, and carbines will be available to all classes. This setup is a clear nod to BF4’s system from 2013, which many fans still consider the franchise’s high point. Why mess with a formula that works, right?

Two Playlists, Two Experiences

DICE is also introducing two playlists during the open beta: one where signature weapons remain locked to their classes, and another where any weapon can be used by any class. It’s a smart way to test player preferences and gather data to see which approach resonates more. Maybe they’ll keep both or lean into the more popular one after the beta.

Looking Ahead

Based on early glimpses from BF Labs, Battlefield 6 appears to be on track, featuring less goofy character skins and gun customization that feels like a natural evolution rather than a copycat of other shooters. Whether sticking to classic BF4-style class weapons is the right call or not, it’s clear DICE wants to please the fans who’ve been waiting a long time for a new Battlefield.

What do you think? Are you cool with the Signature Weapons system sticking to BF4’s blueprint, or do you want DICE to shake things up? Sound off in the comments, I’m looking to read your take.
